Canadians Love Virtual Internet Entertainment!

Canadian have managed to watch online movies/videos/shows via Youtube, beating U.S internet users who have more sites available.  Virtual entertainment is becoming extremely popular amongst Canadians more than U.K, U.S, Germany and even France.  Many movies and TV shows are blocked in Canada and are only available in U.S. "comScore" stated that 88% of internet users who are Canadian, watch an average of 10 hours of videos online a month. On the other hand, Americans spend an average of 5 hours per month online.

Amazing huh? United States has access to Hulu.com a website that opens doors for Americans to the largest collection of TV shows and movies yet Canadians are more virtually active. In Canada Google is the number one resort for online shows. Canadian television such as CTVglobemedia and Global TV stream their popular shows with their personalized revenue generating ads as a substitute for the Hulu site offered in U.S that makes money off their own ads. Now here is the catch, although Hulu could be possible in Canada, companies such as Rogers and Bell would not allow that. Being the top leaders of PaperView movies, and internet plans, both companies would experience a decline in their revenue.  So to give Canadians some hope Rogers as a similar platform has Hulu which “only” requires users to subscribe to Rogers cable for access. ;)

Here is a chart that shows how much Canadians and American watched online during 2009. Imagine how much the percentage has changed within the past 3 years!

  1. I find it very interesting how we as Canadians have managed to be more active online than the US even though they have more resources. Because of the large difference between our resources are theirs, you would think they would spend more time online. I also find it irritating that some of the resources are blocked in Canada and only available in the US. I think that the net is a wide open space that should promote everyone to connect and share their resources. On the other hand I realized that money is a lot more important to our countries. If an american company is allowed here, than what happens to our original Canadian resources? I get why companies like Rogers would not want others to take business away from them. We have many resources to choose from and use. By the looks of it, we are using them a little too much.
